Autodesk's AutoCAD is without a doubt the industry standard for computer
drafting. I use AutoCAD for drafting my blocks because of its precision as a design
tool. In addition to the accuracy, I like having the ability to print a block in any
size without having to change the the drawing itself. While other software applications
used by quilters contain this type of feature, AutoCAD offers more control as each scaled (sized) version
of the block is saved as a layout; which can then be manipulated further.
not for the faint of heart
Having said this, I must add
that I do not recommend AutoCAD as an easy to use design tool for quilters. In fact, it is
just the opposite. It was only because I had previously learned to use AutoCAD as a tool
for drafting furniture plans for my husband, that I was able to use it with ease
for quilting.
the plan
Contact me if you're interested in having a block
digitally reproduced. While I'm still working out which is the best digital format to send,
it can be accomplished via email in a matter of minutes. For those who wish to have a
custom block created, I can work from a simple drawing or idea.
